Dear World,

Dear World,

A Poem by d. c. smith

I feel like you grew up and I stayed here

See? I’m still wearing these dumb jeans

And the girls! O World, the girls who filled our mouths

But my mouth isn’t swollen

You know, my hand is usually what does all of the talking

And so I can’t help the whole wallflower thing

And I can’t catch as many fish as you can, World

But my eyes water when I don’t want them to

And I still think about space

No, not the space between us--

I can’t think about that--

But space and if they have wars

Because, well, I can’t fight a war

And I can’t catch as many fish as you can, World.

I'm not entirely sure of your meaning but for my self World meant a person to me. It's funny another person's writing can find it's niche in my life. It's like I can't be as grand as the World but the World also can't be as grand as I, able to cry and be a bit of a wallflower when I read this poem. Thanks for the lovely read.

I feel differently everytime I read this.

Always a good feeling, though.

I read this 4 times, and each time I understood a little bit more of it. This is one of your best man, I really like it.
