                                    KIM

By 6 in the evening I was a nervous wreck. I had been on dates before but never one like this, with a man like hunter. Even though I’d spoken to him for only a few minutes I knew he was a good person. Apart from his amazing green eyes and brown hair, his chiseled jaw and broad chest he seemed like a nice guy. And what harm would a dinner do right? It was just a barbeque. His friends were going to be there. What really stuck with me was he was the only person who’d heard me sing. He’d seen me at my most vulnerable and stayed there, even asked to see me again, and from my past experiences that was something that rarely happened

I decided on a blue dress that hung on my curves. It was knee length and I paired it with a pair of silver flip-flops. Nothing too fancy. I let my dark hair hang loose and opted out of makeup. I didn’t want to look like I was trying too hard. Plus it was just a dinner. I walked out to the living room when I heard the doorbell. I rushed to the door to see him standing there, dressed in a white shirt and jeans. His hair unruly and messy. I tried my best hiding my face hoping he wouldn’t see me blush.

“Hey. You look… beautiful’

He said looking me up to down and then into my eyes. I smiled at him and was  about to tell him he looked good to when

“Hello hunter. What are you doing here?” my dad stepped up behind me and looked down at hunter with cold eyes

Furious I said “dad. I and hunter are going out for a barbeque. .”

“Do you guys even know what ..”

“Dad! You lost the right over me 12 years back when you left! Im going out with hunter now. No need to wait up!”

I walked out pulling on hunters hand.  I pulled him onto the road and kept walking. He didn’t say a word before he suddenly tugged at my hand and crushed me to his chest. I cried all the pain out letting my past and fears wash away and wishing hunters warm embrace could keep me safe forever.

                                   HUNTER

Watching the scene unfold had been something I hadn’t expected. I hoped Mr. Burns wouldn’t mind me taking his daughter out. I didn’t expect him to be ecstatic about it, but I was hoping for at least an okay. What I didn’t expect was to watch Kim break down like how she had. It was like a knife to my stomach knowing she had such sorrow buried deep in her about her father. I wish I could grab her pain and throw it away. Having her crushed against me crying all her hurt out did things to me I never thought I’d feel. It felt like she was meant to be here. In my arms. My arms were meant to carry all her fears, all her sorrows for her. She was meant to live for so much more.

“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I didn't mean to wet your shirt like this. I’m sorry I’m such a mess..”

I placed my finger on her lips to calm her ”shh its okay. No worries here. I’m here if you need me. “I smiled hoping to get the same from her.

She smiled back “so hunter. Would you still like to take this emotional mess with you to the barbecue? “she waved at herself. Even her crying face was beautiful

“I happen to know exactly the cure for your emotional mess madam.”

She laughed the same laugh again. God.

I took her hand and lead her to my car. We drove in silence before we arrived to the party.   I stepped out and helped her out of the car before entwining our fingers together. The spaces in between my fingers is where hers perfectly fit.
