A Chapter by Zachary

The book is supposed to be sketchy. I made this because I want to show everyone what teenagers point of view writing. Please do not correct anything!

May 25, 1962,

A lot has happened in these 6 days. Pa and I have been working dust to dawn for the crops. It gets annoying at times, but I have to support my Pa and he has to do the same. I’ve been getting made fun of because of my race – isn’t that downright rude? I don’t be making fun of them whites because… it’s not right! Who would make fun of another human being? I wouldn’t. My Pa & Ma always took great care of me. I wish nobody intoxicated her.

I found an old letter sitting in the attic. The attic was dusty and the floors creaked. This is the reason why we have so many frightful leaks in this house. I found an old treasure chest, with lines of gold running through the lock. The lock that had stunning silver that locked into place to hide privacy. Luckily, Pa and I kept the key were no body or whites would ever find it. We hid it behind a clock attached to the wall. The wall started crumbling and we had to find another spot. The key dangled from the nail where the clock was.

“Chris, what you doing up there?” Pa shouted.

I started looking around, all queasy and edgy inside. What was he going to say? “This was my place that Ma and I stayed whenever you weren’t here?”

I wasn’t sure.

“Nothing!” I said piercingly.

He started walking up the latter and by that time, I snuck the letter in the back pocket of my jeans. I covered it up with a white shirt Pa bought for me when it was Christmas.

“Why don’t you come down now? We are having supper soon.”

I started walking down the latter and the letter fell and I quickly ran down the latter but Pa jerked and took the letter. He held the letter in his frigid hands.

“Were you sneaking something from me, boy?” He howled.

“Yes…Pa…I miss Ma…I wanted to read the letter – so I can still remember her.”

He looked at me and sighed. His eyes started to get diluted and at that time, I felt like I did something wrong. To keep something away from him that was his wife’s. I felt reluctant.

Pa gave me a hug and I never let go.

“I promise I won’t keep nothing away from you.” I sobbed.

He smiled.

From,

Chris

P.S. Pa and I might be gone for a while, Journal. I'll make sure I'll tell you everything that happens.

heart-warming. Though Chris's life seems difficult, you manage to spread light and happiness through the story, especially towards the end. i really like your plot and the way Chris signs off from his entries.
