So White, Snow White

So White, Snow White

A Story by tangible.elle
"

One of my favorite short pieces. It was written as a quick write in which the task was to describe the setting in which a murder takes place.

"
This place had been so innocent, so pure, so white. White as snow and she was likewise pale and as cold as the icicles now forming on her black lashes. This place had been so serene, then her final cry had shattered the still air sending small spays of fresh snow cascading from the pines on which they had previously precariously perched. For a moment, an instant and no more, the wind had howled, signaling her departure and then calm was once again restored. Dead it was, all of it, the air, the wind, his heart, dead. The only reminder of life was the thin trail of crimson red tainting the bed of white in which she’d lay forever. It did not take long for him to cover her, tucking her in one final time, in her coffin of childish simplicity. Snow. Soon the frost bite set in, numbing his limbs, though he had not felt anything at all inside for quite some time now. As he trudged away he spared one last look at the snow covered clearing. Dense footsteps trailed back to a single glistening rock still wet with blood. A small stain still encircled it. Before he blinked, he swore it made a heart. As he turned his face from her one last time the snow began to fall, so innocent, so pure, so white.

Beautiful description. I can see it in my mind.
One suggestion: This sentence "This place had been so serene, then her final cry had shattered the still air sending small spays of fresh snow cascading from the pines on which they had previously precariously perched." is a bit of a run-on. Maybe you can shorten it, or turn it into two sentences?
