Grandchildren

Grandchildren

A Story by Tammy Hatfield
"

My 2 beautiful grandsons whom only live 1 street over from me.

"
As I sit here in my recliner by the open window,I hear the names of my grandsons being called from a distance. On another warm spring day,I'm looking out my window and see some boys playing in the woods across the road. I think to myself, they look like my grandchildren, then I hear a familiar  female voice ( that of my own daughter) calling them by name and that they are to return home immediately! The saying "so close, yet so far" comes to my mind. Is this what being their grandmother has been reduced to? The sound of their names drifting off in the distance,as sadly along with the memory of me.

Very brave to share so tender a moment. And it's one that we can all relate to, realizing we've slipped a few places on someone's list of priorities.
'Scuse me, while I fetch a kleenex . . .

I am sure that they will miss me when I am gone. They are 12 and 9 at present and more interested in their sports and video games than spending time with Nana.

Aw, c'mon, grandma, don't think yourself irrelevant. I'm sure you mean everything to them.
