Played

Played

A Poem by Tamme
"

Just think of the media and exploitation

"

Look at me,

Once living a normal life,

So ask me why,

How,

It was me,
Played,

Pathetically...

Only,
I partially participated.
Losing myself with you
In this lavishly superficial paradise.

Genuine souls lead astray,
So the most pretentious appetites

May devour the innocent.

Digested.

With the excrement

Dressed up

And shipped out.

So it's here...

High on the food chain...

The flawless sit.
The perfect,
The artificial,
Dictating who should be,

And how they should be it.

After reading this my first thoughts were: Jersey Shore, Fashion critics, homogenization. Our media is not what it once was. When stories of Brittany Spears and the death of Anna Nicole Smith and the latest Justin Bieber dominate the news there is a problem. Therefore we ignore worldwide disasters like the earthquakes that have literally shaken the world to pieces this year. Well said.

I thin that the acidity of thus piece is spot on and well directed. I think that feeling would be increased just a touch more if the ellipses were removed from lines one and two of stanza four. Other than that, nice social commentary.

We are only played
if we let ourselves be played..

I enjoyed the read, but I thought the ending lacked closer I didn't care for the "High on the food chain" line..

Well, this conveyed SOMEONE getting chewed up and spit out for SOME reason, and I thought you conveyed that rather well. Again, your mood technique is damn near flawless, as I really VIVIDLY felt this write.

Well said, at first it seems it is about you but you say it is not and in the end I see you are talking about those pinnacles that few of us ever reach. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.

I really like the last two stanzas; they're worded in a boldly graphic way -

"Digested.
With the excrement
Dressed up
And shipped out."

This feels like a lash out against elitism and celebrity, but instead of ranting, you've taken a more thoughtful, poetic and subtle approach. It's still direct though. Well done.

Overall, this is a good write and an important read.
Nice work.

What's that old saying "Everything that goes up must come down" I think you captured that perfectly and the feeling that goes along with it. I am so pleased seeing these images that you painted so wonderfully. The depth in which you cause a person to look at themselves is wonderful. Really enjoyed this.

You did. It felt like a fall. A gradual slow descent. This is great.
