I wrote this last year for my english class. A extended metaphor comparing life to a river.
Life is a River It has a beginning It has an end However, the origins Do not determine Where it will end Or how it will get there There will be calm currents There will be rough currents It may be quiet It may be loud But no matter what It is almost always easier To go with the flow Rather than against it
However, by "going with the flow", you are merely adding to an already established torrent, thus sacrificing your own identity. The upstream battle, though decidedly more difficult, is ALWAYS more rewarding. Not, alas, a comment on the poem itself, but on the emotions your thoughts inspired; hope that's okay.
This is beautiful. I love it. It really kinda makes the reader stop and think and be like "Yeah. Life IS a river aint it?" I also thought of the song "Life Is Like A Boat" (the closing for Bleach?) and it kinda talks about the same thing. But, the main point IS, I've been trying to work with extended metaphors but have failed oh so horribly XD. In fact, some authors have been unable to do it AT ALL. That alone should be enough to make you say "Wow, look at me. I can do this." Extended metaphors are hard, but with practice, it can go a long way. :)
Well, I'm not much of a writer but I have one idea I kinda want to write down. It's not very original, but hey, its a fanfic so it doesnt matter XD
I stole this from Koda XDD
