The Burbs--2008A Poem by Natacha
The burbs
In the burbs.... I play on the perfected lawns ..I sleep in" Hidden Park" I drink in the warm sun far from my urban ...playground that I used to lose myself in in the burbs...I seek....my destination leading me nowhere .. a map that leads me to the same street...; (...I carry a shopping list of cliches ) " Is it the white picket fences and soccer moms... that are to be found ....?" Strip Malls and Venti Lattes to .distract our day... I frown upon Another parking lot....and smiley face sticker ! ... another drive thu--to lead us in & out and on our way....! .. I enter through the exit door.. and can't find my way back in to my urban playground ..where the streets are filled with clutter and shameful delights of sin .. It is about my adjustment to living somewhere totally different than what I had grown up with ..") from San Francisco to Toulouse,France-East Newark/Harrison New Jersey /New York City to the suburbs..neither good or bad just different that's all! © 2008 Natacha |
