a little something about the country to which i belong

After nearly seven decades of independence

 

I sit here cherishing the women in Indian history

 

Who changed our lives and times

 

And I write a few of their stories

 

Women of our country

 

Fought with all their might

 

Their sacrifices became our reason to be here today

 

And they did this Just to make our lives bright

 

They sacrificed for our independence

 

Not hesitating to pay a heavy price

 

And because of them I sit here in a free country and write in a free country

 

Honestly I would not be here without their sacrifice

 

They changed the course of Indian history

 

Gave their lives for the country

 

But what did we do in respect for them?

 

We should not let their sacrifice go in vain

 

Razia Sultan, the first women Sultan of Delhi

 

Worked for the upliftment of the poor

 

She proved women are storehouses of power

 

And without any hesitation, she fought the Turkish governor

 

Rani Laxmi bai fought with her son on her back

 

Died at the age of 19 but for the happiness of others

 

Her sacrifice remains a special memory

 

And in her life she did wonders

 

Women should fight back,

 

Is what I learn from her

 

Women can fight the mightiest power

 

And it’s her inner voice that I hear

 

Indira Gandhi, the first woman prime minister who ruled for 17 years

 

Believed that even if she died it for the service to the nation

 

She would be proud of it

 

And every drop of her blood will be a part of it

 

Kasturba Gandhi, the women who Inspired Mahatma Gandhi

 

Made a lot of sacrifices for the love of her nation

 

She was with Mahatma Gandhi

 

Throughout his Independent India Mission

 

The nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu

 

Walked hand in hand with Gandhi and Nehru

 

She was the first woman Governor of a state

 

She worked for the poor so that no body went hungry to bed

 

Few years from now, we will be busy making our career

 

But whenever we look back at our progress

 

Their sacrifices is the first thing we remember

 

They all teach us a lesson

 

A lesson that will take us a long way

 

Its all about having a strong will power and never to give up

 

Because, life has better plans coming our way
