Undertow

A 10 minute writing task I completed for a class at uni...

It began slowly. Sort of like a rumble in the pit of your stomach. The kind you hope no one heard. But it got stronger. That pulling feeling, drawing you backwards - towards what you've running from. Then you notice things - out of place. One gasping for air, another scuttling for shelter. And sand. More sand than ever before. Then silence. There's a moment then when you think really quickly about how strange it all seems, how it's surreal and how you should react. You think of all of this so quickly, but it feels slow- methodical. And just when you decide you should start to move your feet again - it's too late, it's caught up - the wall crashes towards you - pulls you under. And you're gasping for air. And there's sand. And you hope someone hears you, sees you, remembers you.

Author's Note

taali
It's my first fictional piece in three years- I've missed writing a lot. So I'm probably rusty.
And it's only a tiny piece.
But what do you think? How would you extend it? Where does it fall down?
