Rise, Woman, Arise
L. Ruth Carter
Her life a barren wilderness,
Heart and soul athirst.
Outcast, sinner, loved by none,
Scorned, despised and cursed.
Spirit broken, virtue spent,
She went from man to man
'Til searching, longing, she came to the well
And learned to understand.
Rise, woman, arise,
Stand bold, stand strong and true.
Rise, woman, arise,
For Jesus nurtures you.
He knows your thirst, He hears your cry,
Drink deep of His well that never runs dry.
She crept along the dusty road,
crowded by the throng.
Illness crushed her, sapped her strength,
robbed her of her song.
Doctors failed her, none could help,
Her life had lost all hope
'Til trembling, sobbing, she reached out her hand
and touched the Master's robe.
Rise, woman, arise,
Stand bold, stand strong and true.
Rise, woman, arise,
For Jesus strengthens you.
He knows you're there, He feels your woe,
Grab onto His faith that heals and makes whole.
They'd sat beside their brother's bed,
Watched him fade away.
Fever drained him, stole his breath,
Claimed his life that day.
Sad and helpless, they buried him,
And mourned four days and nights,
'Til stumbling, weeping, they ran down the road
To Resurrection Life.
Rise, woman, arise,
Stand bold, Stand strong and true.
Rise, woman, arise,
For Jesus embraces you.
He knows your pain, He shares your grief,
He gives you His life that you might believe.
Woman, be forgiven, He loves you.
Woman, take comfort, He heals you.
Be made whole, He names you.
And makes you His very own.
Rise, woman, arise,
Stand bold, stand strong and true.
Rise, woman, arise,
Your Jesus has come to you.
He sees your heart, He knows your need,
He gives you His grace, abundant and free.
