Behind The Curtains

Behind The Curtains

A Poem by Sylvia Chika

Behind the curtains

There was real life

Behind the curtains

She cried real tears

Behind the curtains

There were real problems

Behind the curtains

Her smile faded away

Behind the curtains

The spotlight was nonexistent

Behind the curtains

No claps were heard

Behind the curtains

Her reflection stared at her

Behind the curtains

The real “her” was revealed

Behind the curtains

The razors and the needles taunted her

Behind the curtains

Her demons came alive

Behind the curtains

Emptiness screamed at her lonely soul

Behind the curtains

She was all alone

But now she wanted more

More than what the stage could offer her

More than the spotlight

More than their applause

And the admiration

She desired fullness

She hated the emptiness that mocked her each day

She wanted more than the lights

She wanted more than the camera

She wanted more than the action

So much more than this facade

She let go of the bottles

The razors and the needles

She wanted more

So she dropped the act

And went in search of help

Running into arms of her Father

The One who saw the real her

The One who knew what she really needed

The One who could give her what she really needed

Her Father!

Her Father!
