STRANGERS

STRANGERS

A Poem by Sylvia Chika

When?

When did we throw caution to the wind?

Living life with no care

Unconcerned about the distance between us

The silence

Those conversations that should have happened

When?

When did we become strangers?

This was never the plan

It all started out so well

Now, its slowly becoming a distant memory

You seem to have moved on

Have you?

I cant tell

Cos you are now a stranger

Please, when did we become strangers?!!!

I still remember how hard I fell for you

How silly I acted around you

I would walk all night just to see you at dawn

So far away I lived from you

Yet, the distance didn’t really matter

The distance made me fight harder

So tell me

When did we become strangers?

We both did wrong

We let the fire burn out

We got so comfortable

We no longer threw in the logs

We watched the fire die

Tolerating our flaws

But not really caring for each other anymore

Oh lordthats how we became strangers!

Here I am reminiscing

Waiting for you to come back to me

And there you are

Holding on to the ring of another

What can I do to win your heart again?

Tell me, Mi Amour

I can’t bear the “what ifs”

I can’t be a stranger anymore
