SHE NEEDED A DRINKA Poem by Sylvia ChikaShe needed a drink She needed to quench this thirst The bartenders were nowhere to be found She had too many dependents They all looked up to her for everything The burden was much But she never complained She gave She gave She gave She never complained She never spoke a word until
today “I need a drink!” She croaked Her throat was dry and sore Her skin was dry and parched She needed a drink badly So she prayed And she waited Oh! She waited! A drink for one…or maybe for all A drink for a minute…or maybe an hour So, she looked up She knew they would show up They always did! And there they were As dark as they could possibly be They were heavy and so beautiful She could sense the intimacy It was powerful They reached out and grabbed each other's hands They were all so in-love The bartenders appeared A perfect sight They hugged They kissed They cried Tears of joy The great reunion She knew her prayers had been answered She closed her eyes and savored every drop She opened her pores She took it all in The sweet liquid flooded her senses Oh! What a relief! Mama Earth was glad once again She asked She prayed And now she drank The rain washed her thirst away Mama Earth drank Yes! She drank!
