THE EYES THAT SAW THE TRUTH

THE EYES THAT SAW THE TRUTH

A Poem by Sylvia Chika

Secrets well hidden

Mysteries only I knew

Lies only I spoke

A fabrication of the truth

Comfort I found

Living a life of lies

Filled with sweetness and deceit

I never saw you coming

A glass house I dwelled in

But I was careless

I let the kids throw stones

I let my guard down

My fences became invisible

The line I drew…fading white

Eyes that saw through black glass

The eyes that broke the ice

The eyes that threw the largest stone

The stone that brought it all down

The eyes that saw through the lies

Eyes I dreaded

Eyes that could rewrite my story

Eyes that faded all lines

The eyes that forced the truth out of its cage

The eyes that tore the veil

Naked I became

Rid of clothes

Naked and in the cold

Undressed for all to see

Never really thought about lies being a wall that concealed our true self. It is disturbing to find the eyes that see thru us...or worse our own eyes that see ourselves for the first time.
