Self Deception

Self Deception

A Poem by sydel-amesthyst
"

The way in which one falls into self deception.

"

The music of hope dies away and is replaced with a tune of despair.

Finding oneself in a place of isolation and noticing with fear,

That the illusions we seek are not real, and what is may bring us to a world of death.

A place of hatred, pain, redemption, anger and loss.

To have wings mended only to once again be placed into shackles.

Dreaming of past wrongdoings, and living each one over in its entirety.

Only to lay the guilt on its true source, oneself.

Fighting against death and finding life in the most painful place.

Watching from the shadows and being taunted

As those around you walk effortlessly  into the light.

While with each step you take, it disappears farther and farther into the distance.

To catch sight of it, and be jerked backwards in bitter defeat by the keeper of your chains.

To sit in solitude and learn the true meaning of patience.

To figure out for oneself whether the waiting is worth it

Praying for a reason to survive, and then hearing nothing but silence echo in return.

Living in two worlds at the same time,

Yet belonging to neither completely.

Caught in a confusion created in turmoil,

And becoming lost in its entirety.

Left behind in a sought out glory one defines as pride,

And in an instant being forgotten.

Hard pressed to end the pain and accept that one no longer exists

Taking with it, the only hope of life one might have had to fight off the darkness.

Then, in a futile attempt of self loss,

Surrendering to it, and leaving the shadows without a trace of remembrance.

.

Once again waiting to be found.

Only now in a place far harder to reach.

Waiting for someone to take ones hand

And offer the help that has been continually denied.

Waiting, I wonder, “For how long?”
