just a little something i wrote while having an anxiety attack
Anxiety, depressions distant cousin that it feels obligated
to bring when it’s come to live inside your mind. It’ll find a way to make you
feel as though you’re drowning, like you’re drowning, but…... you’re not
swimming. It’s almost as if you’re drowning but you’re not swimming, and everyone is
watching you gasp for air wondering what is wrong with you, and why you look as
though you can’t stand on your own two feet. Like your whole body is shaking,
as if an earthquake has just happened but it has only affected your body and
not the earth on which you’re standing on. Like the whole room is spinning when
you’re standing still in one place. Like your mind is constantly jumping from
subject to subject but at the same time you’re thinking about absolutely
nothing. Anxiety, depressions distant cousin that it brings to live in your
mind. You, you are not your anxiety. It will not last forever. Just take a
moment to close your eyes and take a deep breath, and just know everything will be fine.
This is open and honest, and I really appreciate the message you convey in this piece. The sort of lengthy sentences and the visual of them being condensed into one paragraph amplifies the sense of urgency and that "out of control" feeling. Anxiety (and depression) are issues that many people throughout the world deal with, (even I have) and it's a godsend for them to feel like they're not alone in it, especially since the nature of these illnesses makes one feel isolated and misunderstood. Thank you for using your words to positively impact others, and it does get better with time. :)
