You Wonder Why

You Wonder Why

A Poem by Abbigail R. Snyder
"

This is a poem about America. I wrote this in 6th grade. The prompt was why I love America.

"

You wonder why I admire her so?

Well then give me the time to explain.

Have you ever seen a canyon so grand that clearly explains its name?

Or have you ever watched a faithful geyser spit boiling water towards the sun?

Or visit four stone presidents who remind us of what we have won.

Have you ever seen an eagle soar high up in the sky?

Or fly a kite with the wind, on a sandy beach nearby?

Have you ever heard the children pray, or the choir sing their song?

Or listen to church bells ring, while the birds chirp along?

Or have you ever seen the colors on the flag we hold so high?

That sways when we sing the anthem that sometimes makes us cry.

Or have you ever seen the sun melt beneath the sea?

Or watch a group of grandmas on a porch drink a glass of tea?

You wonder why I admire her so? Well, here’s the reason why.

She is my beautiful, beautiful home lying beneath God’s wide, open sky.
