And There Was Silence

And There Was Silence

A Poem by Norma M Sutton

And there was silence
The world held its breath

And there was silence
No one could guess

And there was silence
As the trees hid their eyes

And there was silence
Ringing to the skies

And there was silence
The world made not a sound

And there was silence
No one left around

And there was silence
As tears filled her eyes

And there was silence
Not even a sigh

And there was silence
The rain began to fall

And there was silence
No pattering was found

And there was silence
As the drops hit all around

And there was silence
Ringing under ground

And there was silence
The world seemed to call

And there was silence
No answering voice falls

And there was silence
As her calls grew and grew

And there was silence
Ringing in the dew

And there was silence
The days of song has passed

And there was silence
No one thought it would last

And there was silence
As another day renewed

And there was silence
Ringing primordial stew

And there was silence
The day had finally come

And there was silence
No dark to overcome

And there was silence
As feet touched the land

And there was silence
Ringing in her hands

And there was silence no more
As life crept across the land

Silence is truth calling to hope.

Althought the repeated words add weight to thegentlly flowing piece of writing, they allow the reader to pause and think before moving on.

A amazing poem. I like the use of repetition to strengthen the flow of the poem. I like silence. I can think and try to figure my life out. A very strong ending to a excellent poem.
