A True Story

I have a ring given to me by my dad's first cousin. It was given to her by her
mom and to her mom by her mother's brother. This is the story of that ring.

A solitary pearl I am
Softly glowing and round
Set in 10 carat gold solitary mount
I wait

Full of hope I was bought
A ring for the finger of a special girl
He carried me in his pocket
Asking her on trembling knee

Alas she nar said I do
With great sadness he carried me home
A gift to his sister instead
She wore me until her dying day

And then I was passed on
To her daughter who
Put me on her finger
And cherished me with all her might

Upon her death I was passed on
To the daughter of a cousin
Who wore me well until
Afraid of my loss she stored me safely

With one day hopes of passing me to her daughter
A daughter that she never had
Now alas what will become of me
Will no one be there to carry me on

Is this the end of my journey
Is this the end of my story
Is this the end of my value
What will become of me

prompt: With all that said, I think the next prompt should challenge
timewise. What I want you to do is put the following subject into a fresh
typing place, stare at it for a while and wait for Ms Muse to shout something
at you. Then write for 20 minutes exactly. After 20 minutes round off
whatever line you are on and there you go. A no more than 20 minute write.
Here is the subject: A certain peice of jewelery has a story behind it.

You create a powerful story in the poem. The ring became alive in your words. Those family gifts of rings and art have great value. I have many things I hold as priceless. Each having a real story. A outstanding poem. Thank you.

Oh I like it! My family has a pocketwatch handed down in a similar manner. Wonderful. Renfieldians unite!
