Night Time's Silent SoundsA Poem by Norma M Sutton
Silent sounds of night I seek
Creaking doors and whispering feet Acorns drop and roll on down Until they plop onto the ground Crickets cry their sad sad song Summer sun will soon be gone Frogs trill into the night Hidden from our daily sight Sleeping bird in pear tree Softly sings his day to me Even in his nightly snooze His warbling songs quietly ooze Big old owl up in the oak Flutters down a seeking cloak Creeping creatures turn to run With the setting of the sun Barking dog far afield Sets my mind a chill Soon a distant answer comes Setting everything a hum Timid rustle stealthily glides Little mouse seeks to hide Twitching whiskers turns to run House cat sees it as fun From my lap a purring rises As miss puss song exercises Long tail twitches side to side Taking everything in stride Silent night sounds do I seek Before my writing ceases and sleep I keep Even from within my dreams Nothing sounds as it seems © 2010 Norma M SuttonReviews
