I've cried my tears
Of loss and loneliness
Bid adieu to my hopes with you

Smiled to see your happy eyes
While inside my heart is breaking
Saying goodbye to dear friend

My presence now
Would cause more harm then good
Happiness is my wish for you

Today I muddle along
Alone
Planning solo journeys here on

Tomorrow another day will come
Face it I must
A smile covering my loss

Today comforts small and dear
Fill the emptiness
Warm the cold

I'll bury myself in work so hard
Until exhausted I fall into bed
Asleep as head to pillow falls

That's pretty sad. The breakup of a marriage or long term affair is gut-wrenching, I know. I've been there, too, and call that period of my life "the dark years." There is no balm, no healing potion for it, and it's as traumatic as a death in the family. Most of us live to see the sun again, thankfully.
