A poem documenting Recovery

Recovery.... It's a joke to most

Who don't understand the difference

Between illusion and reality...

 

What they don't understand...

The difference between a changed woman...

A changed man

 

Recovery..... For me it's the discovery

Of what lies within you...

Who you are... the real... the true

 

Recovery.... They say "It's not for me,

I don't have a disease...

I only do as I please."

"Nothing has power or control over me."

 

Recovery.... It's a fearless moral search of who we've become

Things we've done and what we've overcome

Why we come this way

And why sometimes we run...

 

We run from ourselves....

lying in dirty sheets of denial...

When all we really want or need

Is someone to understand...

 

Be there for us.... offer a helping hand

Recovery.... understanding is only the beginning

Of actual self discovery!

I nearly lost one of my oldest friends due to something he was addicted to recently. Thankfully he finally got some help and he's doing so much better. The poem is very true and speaks about something a lot of people don't take the time to think about. Thank you for posting it!

Great expressive piece. You've really touched me on this one. It's close to my heart and I suppose many others to who suffer. The final 2 stanzas are a grey finish
