Children Gone

Children Gone

A Poem by Sweet Emotions
"

A poem about an abused girl and a neglected boy.

"

The sun shines so bright but the color clouds her eyes

The red color of the blood she drew

Streaming from her skin

That pocketknife is her only friend

The bite of the blade the only thing she trusts

She closed her eyes and sighed in relief

It’s the one way she can forget the pain

By focusing it somewhere else

Somewhere he didn’t touch her

No one ever told her it would be ok

The thought never crossed her mind

Someday things might change

She thinks there’s no other way

And she was told she’s too stupid for a future

Sad that she’s only a kid

Barely ten and already so lost

As the moon rises he slips out the door

A lighter hidden under his jacket

The stars shine just enough for him to see

Where the burn marks are from last time

The neglectful family led him to this

The flame blistering his skin

He closes his eyes and rolls up his sleeve again

Because all he wants is something to feel

No one’s home to tell him it’ll be ok

The thought never crossed his mind

Someday he will escape

He thinks there’s no other way

Doesn’t know he’s smart enough for a future

Too bad he’s just a child

Barely ten years old and already gone

I know there's no punctuation, but I haven't gotten to that part yet.

Extreme, dark, captivating... I love it, but it needs more! Make something of the characters, you gave thier story but show thier significance and give them a reason.

my belief is that punctuation is not necessarily necessary in poetry.
self hurt poetry scares me and i want to run away from it. but i can't run away from my own. i'm not running from yours. it is a very sad thing and i don't know of a specific happy ending, but awareness is a very important thing. the world needs to know about this. my belief is that we have war for the same reason. cure a self. cure the world. not easy but always worth a try. please never quit. ok?

A captivating, raw and emotional piece. Loved it, well done.

I don't really enjoy reading suicide poems that much. But this one spoke to me as true and raw feelings that could or could not be hidden in the depths of ones soul. Amazing work.

This isn't a suicide poem. They're not committing suicide.
Wow, wow! This piece is great! I was captivated by a story. I almost felt like I was standing next to the children, and feeling their pain. Truly awesome. A+ :)

I think it's perfectly fine without any punctuation. This is a very emotional piece and when I was reading it, in my head, it sounded like a song to me. I don't know if you can play an instrument, but if you can, you should definately consider fixing this up into a song. Overall, I really liked it. Nice job.

I don't really think it needs any punctuation - this feels much more like a song lyric than like a written poem, and one can't really sing a comma. Beautiful handling of a troubling subject - your wording takes just enough of the edge from the content that, instead of being pushed away by the visceral reaction to such pain, one is compelled to finish reading. Well done.
