Children GoneA Poem by Sweet EmotionsA poem about an abused girl and a neglected boy.The sun shines so bright but the color clouds her eyes The red color of the blood she drew Streaming from her skin That pocketknife is her only friend The bite of the blade the only thing she trusts She closed her eyes and sighed in relief It’s the one way she can forget the pain By focusing it somewhere else Somewhere he didn’t touch her No one ever told her it would be ok The thought never crossed her mind Someday things might change She thinks there’s no other way And she was told she’s too stupid for a future Sad that she’s only a kid Barely ten and already so lost As the moon rises he slips out the door A lighter hidden under his jacket The stars shine just enough for him to see Where the burn marks are from last time The neglectful family led him to this The flame blistering his skin He closes his eyes and rolls up his sleeve again Because all he wants is something to feel No one’s home to tell him it’ll be ok The thought never crossed his mind Someday he will escape He thinks there’s no other way Doesn’t know he’s smart enough for a future Too bad he’s just a child Barely ten years old and already gone © 2011 Sweet EmotionsAuthor's Note
