Soldier's Mama

Soldier's Mama

A Poem by Sweet Emotions

She walks through the graveyard
early one summer day,
angry at the army
that took her son away.
As far as she knows he’s still alive,
but she eyes the empty spot
next to her parents’ graves.
Even though she should be hopeful
she isn’t very brave.
He left a week ago,
he kissed her goodbye at the door,
he told her not to worry,
six months would hurry by.
But that first week had been eternity,
six months seems like infinity.
All this his mama thinks
eyeing the open grassy space,
she says a prayer, signs a cross.
Even though it’s a gory thought,
she thinks of the soldiers she saw at the hospital,
scarred, some limbs lost.
She hopes her boy will come home again
after the war is done;
as long as he comes home again
she doesn’t care if it’s lost or won.

Bravo. My mother has went through 3 different occasions with me. You have captured the emotion perfectly. Amazing how you can paint what many don't know what it feels like. Thank You
