Run Away

Run Away

A Poem by Lisa Parks

I just want to run away
Where no one can find me.
Where no one can tell me what to do in my
life.
Where no one tries to change me.

I want to run away
To another planet..
Where I am alone...in my own thoughts
Where there is no one nagging, telling me not
a nice person.
Where I am not disrespected.

I want to run away...
Where I am free and can have some fun.
Where no one is breathing down my neck.

I want to run away
Because life is hard and people just tell me
to get over it.
You try being in my shoes.
You try being me for once.

I really get the sense of dread and agony in these lines, especially when they are repeating. Every time you say "I want to run away", I can hear it getting louder and Louder and LOUDER. And you are right, I am not you and you are not I. People will never understand because they live their lives, not yours. Sometimes it's cruel when people are so quick to cast judgement. I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to get away from people. Almost everyday.
