Philosophy of Education

A Story by Sarah Wlochal

The title of “Educator” is much more then the name of your job. The education that you learn throughout your lifetime is the one thing that nobody can steal away from you. Once you learn about a variety of topic’s you can go on to pursue whatever interests you the most, and from the beginning teachers are the people who help children get there. Family members and friends take part in educating their child, but a teacher is the most active participant in the lives of young children and takes a responsible role in how much a child learns in the classroom so that the young person can go onto whatever career they choose. The task of being an educator is to get all students ready for what is to come in the future.
The purpose of education is:
1. To develop a creative society,
2. To give all people an equal chance to succeed in life,
3. To help a person accomplish individual goals,
4. To give an understanding of what is happening in the world.
The role of the student in education is:
1. To be active instead of passive,
2. To be willing to put a best foot forward,
3. To take action and responsibility of learning,
4. Be open minded to learn about new information,
The role of the teacher in education is:
1. To be a guide for a student,
2. To create a warm and protective environment,
3. Someone who is creative and thinks outside the box,
4. To be a good listener.
The role of the teacher in the community is:
1. To serve as role models,
2. To be aware of any issues or conflicts outside of the classroom,
3. To be eager to give any needed assistance,
4. Give updates to parents on the child’s progress.
I have decided to become a teacher for the following reasons:
1. I want to make a difference in the life of a child,
2. I want to wake up each morning knowing that I’m going to a job that I love,
3. I want open up and explore the hidden skills of children,
4. I want to pave a way for the future success of children.
My philosophy aligns with progressivism in these ways:
1. I believe that people learn through interacting with others in real life situations,
2. Creating a higher mountain of knowledge through what students have already learned is a great way to keep them interested in learning,
3. The teacher is still to be the facilitator of the learning environment.
Becoming a teacher is something I have always wanted to do. Teaching is much more than knowledge it is about watching a child develop through every bit of information that they obtain. Teachers must want to help students grow as individuals and assist them through each path so that they can become as successful as possible in the future. I will bring all aspects of teaching together to guarantee that my students are prepared for whatever road lies ahead of them.
