Middle Aged Cheat

Middle Aged Cheat

A Poem by J. Swaney
"

A poem I wrote about the life of this middle aged man.

"

I'm closer to 50 than 40.

I'm closer to 300 than 200.

I'm closer to gray than brown.

My sex life is closer to

Once a month than once a week.

I'm closer to old than young.

I go to bed closer to 10 than 12.

I'm closer to retired than employed.

So I couldn't have been more

surprised when she flirted with me.

I'm closer to semi than hard

I'm closer to a Crown Vic, than a Corvette

I'm closer to Macys than Walmart

So I just gave her my number

when she asked for it.

I'm closer to an owner than a renter

I'm closer to AAA than Napa Auto Parts

I'm closer to IRA than food-stamps

So when she leaned over to put my number

in her phone I looked down her blouse

I'm closer to diabetes than fitness

I'm closer to a heart attack than a noon er

I'm closer to conservative than liberal

So when she glanced up, caught me looking,

Smiled and touched my hand, I blushed.

I'm closer to married than single

I'm closer to dependable than depends

I'm closer to wise than foolish

So when she excused herself to use

the ladies room I fled the scene.
