Chai Tea LatteA Poem by SaranyaRainy day imaginingsIt’s not your job to know me As we pass each other on the street, Hurrying through the rain Our boots squeaking on the slippery Sidewalks. Our shoulders hunched under Flimsy umbrellas It’s not your job to know me As we buy coffees In a reversal of roles I’m surprised to see you Not behind the counter It is your job to ring up my order And smile, as you hand me That red paper cup, cozy in its Eco-friendly waistcoat Tall hazelnut soy chai tea latte I thought it was complicated But you remember every time And you say hi as we pass by in the rain And you smile when you’re behind me in line And you ask me how my day has been Even though you don’t know my name And I don’t know yours © 2013 Saranya |
