Without WorldA Poem by Swagato SahaAgainst the dictum "Personal is Political", what is to be done when the World as the shared space of collective action disappears? Do "we live in a Society"? Or are we but sheltered black holes? But our wails of weary will must give way, To the frail courage of a flourished hand, By the doorbell's ring in timeless wait, Have breathless strides taken their stand. So the silence of winter's night sees, Flyers wake its unknowing eyes, From warmest sleep to cold unease, With scenes of distant genocides- When came a call from the chambers dressed, As the feigned smile of a sunken gaze; What words dare rouse thy sheltered soul? What fated light could burn black holes? And what's in a hallway's sourceless stare? That strips true thought of meaning bare, Strands me thus in abyssal pause; By thy guarded isle the world withdraws... O' lost time, forgotten space! Are we lone bearers of thy remains? Must search the waste of winding ways, For a fellow memory- While worldless windows slide to dreams, By the promise of another day, And the East Wind's unlettered screams! As dying children far away... © 2024 Swagato Saha |
