Private Reason

Private Reason

A Poem by Swagato Saha
"

Isn't the contemporary intellectual scene rife with specialists with little sensitivity towards issues outside their expertise? How then to resist this privation of reason and rescue public discourse?

"

How late shall midnight's candle burn?
How deep do the numbered shelves run?
How oft must referred pages turn?
Else wait in idle history...

Since unseen skies then sound their scorn,
At chambers of servile reason,
To chains of phony questions born,
By the manner of titled minds...

With divine grace on screens you seem!
Poised by the play of worldly screams!
Veils of lettered surrounds redeem,
Your platitudes pronounced.

To lull thus in easy embrace,
Of certainties, midst growing haze;
As faithless marchers draw away,
From prisons of choking truths-
