Free By Decree

A Poem by Swagato Saha

'Twas a toilsome day ahead I thought,
And steadied my nerves at the door;
Till someone above great news had brought!
Of today we need work no more.

To fields we took, caught the sun twixt eyes!
Unknowing how this hour did seem,
To the resting dogs and the birded skies;
Midst the flowered green as kids we beamed.

Strange we stared till scared withdrew,
To the edges then on the brink...
In too little time was much to do,
While all we did was wryly think.

So I traced the many ways that went,
Of them the few I've come to know,
And chose homeways; thus free day spent -
In anxious wait for tomorrow.

It would seem that a steadying of nerves and the rising anxiety is much like the rising and ebbing of the tides. Good stuff here Swagato.
