This week saw the next stage of the Inter-Nations League Group Stage.

Trezeguet opened the scoring for Egypt when they flew to South Korea for their first encounter. His deft touch from the left of goal was too good for Song Beom-Keun. However, South Korea worked back into the match, and Hong Chui first passed from a free kick into the middle, before receiving the ball again out wide and scoring the equaliser. In the second half, Hwang Hee-Chan volleyed a ball from Hong Chui, and found the back of the net to give South Korea a great advantage in their group.

South Korea then faced Chile at home three days later. Sebastián Vegas looked to have the upper hand over the Korean defence, particularly when he scored in the 37th minute as he worked along the wing. However, ten minutes from time, with Chile a player down, Son Heung-Min stepped up and scored with a close-range header, and the game ended in a draw. Earlier, Han Seung-Gyu was forced off with a fractured lower arm early on, largely thanks to an Arturo Vidal tackle.

Mexico trounced Fiji by four goals within the first hour, scored by four different players. Experienced full-back Miguel Layún opened the Mexican account in the 18th minute, before Carlos Vela gained a second right on halftime when he gained the ball from an errant Viliame Prakash. Three minutes after the break it became three goals via César Montes’ close range header, before ten minutes later Player of the Match Andrés Guardado scored with a low drive. Fiji’s Epeli Khan was booked for yellow, as was Layún.

Côte d’Ivoire scored three goals against Pakistan at Punjab Stadium. Maxwel Cornet bagged a brace in the space of three minutes in the first half. His first was a free kick into the top corner from the edge of the box, while his second came from a close-range volley which popped the inside of the post before trickling across the line. Wilfried Zaha then joined the throng in the 53rd minute and scored the visitors’ third goal with a solid header. Jawid Khan received a yellow card, as did Muneer Khan for Pakistan.

Three days later, Pakistan hosted the World Cup winners in Colombia. Six goals were the order of the day as Colombia dominated from beginning to end. Jeison Murillo opened the scoring in the eighth minute with his head, before Alfredo Morelos started his hat trick campaign six minutes later by also heading the ball home. Before Morelos’ third goal, James Rodríguez and Yimmi Chará both scored, the former stealing the ball from Mohammed Khan and the latter heading from six yards out, thus gaining three goals across both halves. Morelos completed his hat trick with a deflected shot from close to goal. As for Pakistan, Riaz Khana received two yellows and was sent off in the 69th minute, while Saddam Khan and Nisar Khan also gained yellow cards.

Cameroon defeated Bahrain on their home turf with two impressive goals. The first came about via a Vincent Aboubakar penalty into the bottom corner, before Maxim Choupo-Moting volleyed into the back net just after the break to double the lead. Mahmood Al-Hooti received a yellow card after giving away the penalty. André-Franck Zambo Anguissa also received a yellow card.

New Zealand faced Jamaica for the first time, with the Jamaicans scoring first. Regan Charles-Cook scored in the seventeenth minute from around 19 metres out, only for New Zealand to peg back the goal via Jeremy Brockie three minutes later. He seized upon Andre Blake’s mistake and scored with his head from close to goal. New Zealand then hung on tight and were relieved to hear the final whistle.

Japan took on Ghana at home and not much happened for the first half, with zero shots recorded. Japan stepped up in attack in the second half, winning corner after corner. Finally, left back Yuto Nagatomo scored, breaking free the game. Itakura then pounced on a loose ball and scored Japan’s second goal. Jordan Ayew did peg one goal back for the visitors in the 89th minute, and, despite some hair-raising final moments, the match ended in the favour of the Japanese.

Three days later Japan hosted Brazil, where a 1-1 result ensued. Masatoshi Omori, a late inclusion, scored in the 53rd minute, before Neymar equalised three minutes later. From there, neither side could find the finishing blow.

The Americans flew to Vanuatu with a full-strength side, defeating the hosts by eight goals. Christian Pulisic had a goal in the fourth minute after his well-placed shot hit the inside of the post, before Josh Sargent followed three minutes later into the bottom corner. Timothy Weah then got on the board with his head, as did Kellyn Acosta through a shot from 21 metres out. Sargent’s second goal, a fine header from close range, made it five goals by halftime. After the break, Weah and Sargent scored to both gain a hat trick as the game rounded out a wondrous eight goals. For Vanuatu, Jeffery Tenene and Gordshem Wilkins were booked.

After being rousted by the USA, Vanuatu hosted Germany and held their own for the first period of the match. Soon, though, Toni Kroos had a brace before halftime. Serge Gnabry then made it three goals, though more should have come the way of the Germans.

Due to scheduling conflicts and flight issues, Bahrain and Ecuador’s match was postponed, as was the match between Fiji and England as well as New Zealand and the Netherlands.
