In
the Women’s Nations Cup Qualifiers, Match Day 7 dominated the headlines. Israel
continues to place pressure on their counterparts with a 2-1 away win over the
Czech Republic. Denmark and Serbia played out a 0-0 draw, whilst Scotland put
forth their claim for qualification with a two-nil victory over Belarus.
Ireland needs to find a way to overcome England, and a 2-1 away win over
Slovakia this week will certainly help. Uruguay
seeks a way into the Nations Cup as they saw off a defiant Chile with a 2-1
win. Both Ghana and Senegal scored four to win in Match Day 7, trying to overcome
a plucky Ethiopian side, who remains a thorn in the other Group E nations. Zimbabwe
remains on level terms with Nigeria after winning 1-0. Mali scored their third
away draw, meaning their chance of topping the group remains high compared with
Nigeria. Côte d’Ivoire scored thrice against Kenya, whilst Cameroon went two
better against Malawi. Suriname
remains without a single point after losing at home to Dominica, while Curacao
also are in the same winless boat after Cuba defeat them on home soil. Mexico
and Trinidad and Tobago maintained their perfect record as they won away to
Bermuda and the Dominican Republic respectively. The US Virgin Islands remain
also without a win after their 2-0 loss to St Vincent and the Grenadines. On
the other hand, Grenada scored their first points with a 3-0 victory over St
Lucia. Jamaica gained a vital point away to Costa Rica. Haiti remains in first
place in Group B after their 2-1 defeat of Barbados. The Americans sent a
third-string side to St Kitts and Nevis, and the home side surprised them with
a one-all draw. With three home games in a row, Panama started their rise up
the group with four solid goals over Aruba. Lastly, Asia’s Group D is rather
tight, as Myanmar and Hong Kong both won 2-1, setting up a grand finale for the
final three Match Days.
