Footballing Nations to Formally Leave FIFA

In a bold move, 127 nations have officially seceded from FIFA in underage competitions, effectively slicing the very legs out from under the football body. These 127 nations were key to the qualification stages of 2006, those affected in particular by the corruption of the tournament in Germany and in South Africa earlier this year. The nations have created a new head of football, Futbol United, based in Berlin.

A clause in the FIFA Statutes holds the notion: if a national government takes over the footballing governing body, FIFA will ban them from official FIFA matches. Thus, Futbol United approached each nation’s governments to take over the Under 17 and 20 aspects of their footballing programs.

In a further bold move, Hans Frummel has stated that other nations not yet signed with the venture may still compete under the banner of Futbol United. FIFA’s boss, Sepp Blatter, responded with a mean spirited press conference.

“This is utterly ridiculous. Futbol United are trying to undermine the very fabric of global football. By taking away the youngsters, they are corrupting their minds full of hearsay. They are telling these players, ‘FIFA is bad’. Well, that is simply not true. We will be taking Futbol United and its leaders to court, and soon we will have the Under 17 and Under 20 matches under our control. In the meantime, we will continue conducting matches for non-Futbol United countries. We invite them with welcoming arms to join us as we take on this clear and abrupt attack on FIFA, the very governing body that has brought the world footballing competition for decades.”

Frummel declined a response to Blatter’s comments.

“We will let the football do the talking.”
