The Stygian GoldA Poem by suuyuwriteyunuBeyond the stars, beyond the universe, Too far to reach, impossible to hold. There lies a prophecy, perhaps a curse; one thing’s for sure, the prize shone like clear gold. Two beings emerged, limbs brown, hair soot-black, trudging along the green hairs of Mother. Plenty of vigor, never would they lack; with dear Mother, Together forever. Once, the ash black smoke purred close to their ears of a place filled to the brim with riches. Avarice hunger plagued their minds, their sneers were apparent, their desire itches. To the Garden where gold rubies adorned the branches; and the gilt-edged prize awaits. With blind eyes the pair forged on, they were warned but the light was too bright behind the gates. Foaming mouths, they feast their eyes on the prize. Scampering through, once bright now dark setting. ‘No!’ Lies spilled out their mouths; mid-shove he cries ‘No!’ Bloody murder: the prize they’re getting. Without dear Mother, Alone forever. Air slips; his anguished sobs. No more earth he can see, he gasps; bond with life now severed. Two soulmates: dead. What was the prophecy? © 2024 suuyuwriteyunuAuthor's Note
