'noises.'

'noises.'

A Poem by suuyuwriteyunu

‘ noises. ’

The silence. The grace.

 The grace…

The peace.

My thoughts flow swiftly into the salty breeze that hangs in the air, pondering about my promised land.

chirp.

My petal-like steps advance closer to my place and I smile. I smile; it was harder to smile than it was lifting a 100 kilo weight.                 chirp.                           chirp.

My house! My space! My home! My Eden!

               chirp.                                                                                 chirp.

closer and closer, my excitement echoes through the halls and with full force I

Rationale: The purpose of this Modernist poem is to persuade people to take better care of things or places they consider precious, because it can be killed or taken away in a blink of an eye. This poem is showing how the person’s favorite red bird is being killed in front of her amidst a flood of others (also insects), which signals how special the bird is to her, and how her mind increasingly gets hectic. This poem starts with spaced-out words, then into a boxed format, showing how it gets more overwhelming towards the end (Modernist). Moreover, the change in color signifies the different birds. Change in font and size helps the punctuation emphasize parts (lines 1, 6, 13). Inspiration was taken from my personal experience. The ‘Wring!’ (line 28) creates a shift in the poem (negative connotation). Devices used include anaphora (lines 1, 2, 3), repetition (line 7), onomatopoeia, sibilance, metaphor (line 20), and a marked presence of auditory imagery.
