Remember

Remember

A Poem by Susanna F
"

Why we struggle on.

"

Upon my brow there is a frown

A sign therein dwells a thought

Too many crowd my mind, in fact,

Obscuring what I forgot.

The daily stress can overwhelm

Like a stormy darkling sea -

Not just my own family's survival

But the pains of those close to me

And the wrongs in the world,

The injustice omnipresent

The dying of ideals

Mass obsession with the pleasant

It seems I'm lost in the dark

Why do I even carry on?

Then there's a spark of remembrance

And I see a hint of dawn.

I see the kindness of a stranger

And remember there is hope

There is still love in this world

Through faith in this I can cope.

There are people who need me

And it isn't demanding greed

They think I'm smart, strong and funny

It's my love they really need.

I must not forget that amid all the bad,

Good has always survived, and it will;

In the hearts of a few, perhaps, not all,

But with this memory I can fight on still.

I know I've been writing starkly blunt poems lately, rather than the symbolic and metaphorical - it's not through laziness, it's how my bleak thoughts have been flowing out.

This is of true brilliance.
The rhyme makes me smile, the words you've chosen make me admire your work even more, I love this poem! Especially the feelings you inflict on the reader.

I love the sentiment behind this one, just beautiful. You've done quite well with your rhyme scheme, as well, which is lovely -- and rare! ;) Nice work!
