The House of SorrowA Poem by Susanna FDwelt in gloom...The House of Sorrow dwelt in gloom Above a cheerful field The mists of mourning pouring down To where innocents kneeled.
The rooms of it were colorless All joy and comfort fleeing The halls were silent breathlessly The dwellers walked unseeing.
Oh, what could kill a home like this Once rich, where laughter spilt? 'Twas murdered from inside, I fear The killer's name was Guilt.
That place, the House of Sorrow Was haunted by the past The happiness once found there And the shadow that was cast.
Open the doors - it must be known! What's done must now be told Or this poor house will never live Its future dark and cold.
