Beside You ...

Sonnet

A distant heart-song gently shimmies near,

whilst shadows dance along a restless hush,

held captivated by your touch sincere ...

'til softly radiates a rosy blush.

Beside you, journeyed countless midnight dreams,

soared spangled heavens ~ swam vast oceans deep;

for, poets 'oft imagine … so, it seems,

cascading fantasies, as lovers sleep.

Come take my hand along a stargazed trail,

where all we yearn is flying wild 'n free.

'Pon bated breath emotions dare exhale

familiar ~ yet, it seems a memory.

A constant comfort, soothing warmth through time

… with every tender notion weaved in rhyme.

Gotta scoot over for those gently shimmmying heart songs! This Sonnet feels comfortable. Like it's ok to rhyme. I don't know about peeking into lover's dreams though. Shame on you!

First, I love this image. It is as soft as a caress but vivacious and full of such color.

The poem itself is right out of that image - a dreamscape of words that whisper to the soul of love. Romance breathes in between the lines and sings from every word. Well done!

Someone said my poem 'The POET' is in classic style but someone else said it is not really classic and to read your sonnet poems if I want to know what the meaning of classic is so I'm here.
I am not sure what makes your sonnet classic but I know it is amazing poetry written in a way that is beautiful to read that is smooth and musical with exact rhyming and tells a dream like story of romantic thoughts and feelings that are almost real in the effect it gives me.
The picture and title help set a wonderful mood too and your words are like magic -- may I boldly ask if you will tell what makes this poem classic and how is this kind of sonnet done?
Your poem has made me want to write one and glad I was sent to read your sonnet.

Good morning Roth and Welcome! I will try and answer your question first. I did review your poem and it is lovely. Richard’s explanation is better than anything I could write. I also agree with his assessment. A poem can sound “ classical” but all of the classical forms in poetry have very strict poetic rules. By definition, classical poetry refers to poetry that’s stood the test of time and is still considered great decades or centuries after the poems were first written. ( Richard listed many of the forms for you) if you are asking HOW to write a sonnet etc… that’s another question! 😊 I hope this explanation helps.
