Because You Believed ...

Because You Believed ...

A Poem by Susan 🦋
"

Shakespearean Sonnet

"

How painful echos vibrate deep within ...
a quiet desperation, once consumed.
Erstwhile, doubts linger so restless, therein;
emergent hope revives a soul foredoomed.

T'was neither charity nor false pretense,
whose urging motivates views shift in stride.
Devotion shatters past secured defense ...
discerning insights ~ faithful worthy guide.

Now, shan't deny your priceless gifts, bestow;
in humble gratitude these truths, embrace.
A wounded spirit buries dreams below ...
till parting clouds unveil ~ redeeming Grace.

Impassioned visions finally achieved,
heart set ablaze, because you first believed.

That second verse in your octave was really powerful! True discerning insights for sure! May I take it that 'you' is God? The believer desires that their maker believe in them as well?

I wrote a Sonnet yesterday and found myself doing something more and more ... writing backwards. Writing that last five feet first. Do you ever do that?

Thank you Kayley for yet again, another fabulous review!! Ya making my night this evening!
I think of my writing as "simple & country-like" but some find it mind-boggling becuz I use complex language. This poem helps me imagine how others might feel, reading me, becuz this isn't written in a style of language that is easy for me to follow. It feels pretty complex & cerebral, even tho your words technically convey a clear storyline with a lesson. I've always been intimidated by sonnets becuz people who write them often use elevated language. It's a full rich world of writing that I'm just not part of, but I can appreciate the care you put into making this precise & measured (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Great rhyme and superb choice of words .. I enjoy most poems that use proper sonnets and ones that rhyme and yours definitely did it for me as there was a nice melodic effect to it .. blessings

Thank you Leo! I appreciate your kind words!
Susan, I applaud on you what is a rare achievement, a technically correct sonnet with rich and poetic content. So often one or the other is lost. Your words and verses flow so smoothly we reach the end without knowing it's near.

I love the sincerity and humility in this poem, and the hope expressed throughout. It's faith that carries us through life and love, and that's what you've masterfully captured here.
