Ascent

Ascent

A Poem by Annabel Lee

I can feel my heart lift as the wheels race,
Making their way,
Across the black sea of pavement.
Before long,
this metallic bird
begins its ascent.

The wind forcing us up,
watching Earth meld to Sky,
Finally,
as we glide,
A group of innocent strangers,
escaping from the ground,
Saying farewell to hell.
As we ascend to the heavens,
sweet relief.

The clouds our partner now,
My stomach drops,
my heart fills.
As we move along,
Caressing the heavens,
I feel as though this is life...
Painless.
