They Dance

They Dance

A Poem by Siren

They dance before my eyes--
Jewels are treasured so,
All twinkling and aglow.
With worth none can know.
They dance before my eyes--
Tribal natives appease
Men from across the seas
gods who demand with ease.
They dance before my eyes--
The black and the Jew,
Stripped and rights given few,
Shivering in early-morning dew.
Before my eyes they dance,
Pleading for a chance
To be as they were made--
Anything they would give or trade.

this makes me think of the dance of life....i have always thought of us as spirits dancing in the flesh....but there is an undertone of slavery and holocaust entwined in to the last two stanzas, which makes me sad. man's inhumanity to man has always troubled me. what really pisses me off is that history teaches nothing of the American holocaust...the white man murdered and displaced over 52 million indigenous natives since he landed at plymouth rock in the beginnings of this country. this was well thought out and nicely penned, dear siren.... btw, you are mentioned in my poem "all my rowdy w/c friends......" enjoy
