Darkness At Your Door

Darkness At Your Door

The evidence of the carnage
Remains visible in the fading light
The blood runs free in the night
The passage of chaos rings true
As the black blood mixes with midnight blue
Its okay to be scared now
The battlefield is taking a sweeping bow
I'm afraid none are left alive
Dead things litter the drive
Nothing beautiful about war
The sick die at your door
There are no heroes to be found
When you are at the wrong end of a round
You can hear their cries
But they have mixed in with the lies
'You're a hero of war'
They say as they lay your corpse on the floor
When will it ever be enough
Not everyone is so tough
What do we tell their loved ones now
They wish to know how
Watching from afar
Their hearts breaking down like an old beat up car
Nothing more can we do
But cry with them too
