Silence, please

Silence, please

A Poem by Darkbynight
"

Am I the only one that gets utterly *pissed* off when people act like the moment of silence is a joke?

"

A moment of silence,

everyone stands.

Some people pretend to pray

others join hands.

A moment of silence

at an air force base,

for a soldier to pray

for God's every-present grace.

For some people,

this moment

is no more than a joke.

But I know

the power of silence.

The respect

and honor it holds.

For more

than the men and women

who have died

for my freedom.

I dedicate

these seconds of silence

to all of the people who hurt,

who refuse

to give up anyway.

I dedicate

these meager seconds of my life

to the ones

who refused

to let the evil mouths

of conformity

talk them away

from what is right,

and what they so solidly believe.

A moment of silence.

A minute of my time.

is the least I can do

to say

thank-you.

Author's Note

In the stanza about "the evil mouths of conformity" the person I had in mind was Rosa Parks, she broke all of the rules...because she didn't want to stand up for someone that it wasn't absolutely neccessary for...:) You go girl! :D
