Modern-Day Cinderdella

Modern-Day Cinderdella

A Poem by Darkbynight
"

Fairy tales are true, (in some circumstances,) but they're getting more and more warped as the world we live in today falls further into darkness.

"

Why do I insist

on torturing myself

over impossible fantasies?

My prince

on his brilliant white horse

is to crowded

by his loving people

to notice

the small girl

waiting in the corner.

My fair godmother

ran away,

beaten and bruised

by the harsh fists of reality.

My glass slipper

shattered

long before

"Once upon a time",

leaving me hopeless.

Mirror mirror

on the wall

who's the fairest

of them all?

I ask this

and my reflection laughs.

My 7 dwarfs,

lies,

pain,

secrets,

judgement,

heartbreak,

disrespect,

and darkness

lead me to the poison apple.

Take a bite.

Everyone's doing it.

Rub the lamp

make a wish

to be anywhere

but here.

Stepsisters

sneak away at night,

leaving me alone

to talk to the mice.

The glimmer

of Neverland

dims

when Peter grows old

and withered.

Clock strikes 12

ring around the rosey,

we all fall dead.

Easy to read. Sounds like the pain of broken fantasies. Thank you for sharing.

Wow! I love the mixture of fairy tales in this.. you did a wonderful job of combing through Cinder's life and comparing it in contrast to the Modern day Cinder. Great job!

"My fair godmother

it's all great, but this stanza was my favorite. There's fabulous imagery. Keep writing.

Yes this is a favorite no wonder it is written and performed so well, great style, great comparisons, and great twists on our fairy tales. Loved it.

Mykey,
The sarcastic touch was totally on purpose. :) When I wrote it, I honestly sometimes had this ugly little smirk on my face. I wrote it sarcastically, and it was meant to be read sarcastically (which obviously, you did :D) so congratulations, thank-you, and I'll be sure to change that ;)

this was awesome, not to say you did it on purpose but i got a big Burton feeling from this, very dark but sarcastic and larger than life at the same time, favorite section is " My 7 dwarfs, lies, pain, secrets, judgment, heartbreak, disrespect, and darkness lead me to the poison apple. Take a bite. Everyone's doing it." side note- judgment does not have an e after the g
