Casual Terms of Endearment

Casual Terms of Endearment

A Poem by Bridget
"

It's interesting how loneliness inspires words, and it's more interesting when someone makes a huge impact on your life and you can't stop writing about them.

"

Insult was compliment

when I finally was in your arms

and in a gentle squeeze,

and I had been lost in this strange friendship a day ago

but now it was solidified,

even when I read poetry about you from your love,

and you threw me into something too personal.

It was in a hungover smile,

a shared dance,

hour-long twenty minute car rides,

and such things I wished would never end,

for even when the most exhausted,

I preferred your company.

You gave this to me,

and it means nothing but a strange immediate intimacy

with casual terms of endearment

where I think too much and it really doesn’t matter,

and yet I realize that there’s something lacking

when understanding and other such things

means that you’re gone.

And loneliness hits

as if there were a reason to cry about you.
