The Senses

The Senses

A Poem by Sunayana Nair
"

It metaphorically, figuratively analyses the influence of 5 senses on aspects as personality, will, mind, subconcious and life/death. Depicted through 5 different situations though not confined to it

"

She knew she should not have,
But her tongue in all its wilderness - conveyed her soul's angst, only to be called BITTER.

She thought she couldn't have,
Yet her faltering limbs dragged her ravaged body upright - she had nothing left to give or FEEL, but refused to be thrust upon with someone else's demons.

He believed he knew what he SAW, his mind carefree, trapped within the contours of reality - until it met an obscure death only to be reborn as predictably; he was a stranger to himself momentarily. Nevertheless, wise to rejoice life's entrapping of not knowing.

She ought to have HEARD that child
Having rebuked it too often, it had grudgingly withdrawn; and now she merely witnesses a reflection in the mirror - quiet, lonely and stagnant.

He let out a piercing cry, his first BREATH, celebratory, regardless of its ire.  He had survived. She let out a silent gasp, her last breath, most definitive, in spite of its will to purport. She had lived.
