Venus Flytrap

Venus Flytrap

A Poem by Poetic Shambles
"

The power of a woman

"

She’s central to the human experience,

we’re all just unknowing participants.

She’ll control you in her experiments,

we’ll succumb to her omnipotence.

One might think of a clever comeback,

speaking with a tongue no one understands,

l’espirit de l’escalier, too late to ever command.

Running fingers down paths of wrongs,

that lead to the warmth of her breast,

put anything in her vicinity,

the goddess will catch and digest.

Eternal games played,

and some of them you may win,

but games are all they’ll ever be.

In the hierarchy of nature, the battle is already over,

our hearts were the victim of theft,

but war does not determine who is right,

it only shows who is left,

and while we may use anger, and power to overpower,

there is one thing that will always remain:

Mars will always surrender

to the hourglass of a Venus flytrap.

Anyone unsure what "l’espirit de l’escalier" means, it is French for "staircase wit" which basically is the phrase for when a person thinks of a clever comeback when it is too late

It's interesting that you put the whole 'staircase wit' thing in there. This is one of those pieces that makes you think twice about all the things going on in the world today. Very nicely done.

My, my, how very "Y" chrom! Men are only under the illusion they have power because women allow them this delusion. Women are necessary for species survival, men no longer are; so they had best learn to treat women with the respect, honor and human decency we deserve. Men must learn to strive to be wanted; might I suggest a pair of 6 inch stilleto heels and fishnet hose while you clean the house from ceiling to floor, including windows, cook dinner, do the dishes and laundry!
