Running In Place

Running In Place

A Poem by December Blaize

I have looked in the mirror and dislike what I see,
Sworn up and down I'd get out of this town,
One day I'll get up and write me a maybe,
Shrug it all away and pretend I've got nothing to say,
I suppose I'd be a hypocrite saying time isn't free
When life stories I write take only one night.

Raindrops on red roses like blood on white lies,
And you'll pay for the sins you committed today,
You better back this up when finally the music dies,
Finding flower petals hiding in the nettles,
Cold hearts have room yet for fireflies,
I'm packing my bag on a pessimist drag.

Nothing stops me when I get this feeling,
The world is wide and there's nowhere to hide,
Sitting at a desk wondering who's line I'm stealing,
When you're out on your own but still home alone,
Everything in the room sees the cards you're dealing,
Nobody hears the door shut tight on your fears.

Good, frank poem; says a lot...I like the line "Raindrops on red roses like blood on white lies;" very artistic.
